2x2 Art Residency: A Common Thread

2x2 Art Residency is an international residency programme developed by the British Council and Unlimited, supporting creative exchange and collaboration between disabled artists from the UK and China.

The programme brings together artists with different cultural backgrounds, lived experiences and artistic practices, creating space for experimentation, dialogue and collaborative making. It responds to the barriers that disabled artists often face in visibility, access to resources and international exchange.

The 2025 residency took place across Scotland and Hangzhou, in collaboration with The Work Room, Magnetic North and BY ART MATTERS. Through in-person residencies, online exchange, public events and open studios, the artists explored new ways of working across language, culture, access and body difference.
